The actuator is an essential part of the intelligent valve control system. Its function is to accept the control signal sent by the controller and change the flow of the controlled medium, so as to maintain the controlled variable at the required value or within a certain range. Understanding the basic terms of smart valve actuators can help us to better carry out our work. Do you know what are the basic terms of smart valve actuators?

65-1 pneumatic actuators

Basic terms of actuator

1. Actuator "terminal control element"

The instrument that directly changes the manipulated variable in the forward path of the control system is composed of an actuator and an adjustment mechanism.

2. Control valve or regulating valve

The device in the process control system that uses power to change the fluid flow 1t is composed of an actuator and a valve. The actuator changes the position of the valve in the valve according to the control signal.

3. Solenoid valve

The electromagnetic force generated by the coil energization and excitation is used to drive the valve of the spool switch.

4. Self-operated control valve

Without external power, it only relies on the energy of the controlled fluid to operate by itself and keep the controlled variable constant.

5. Adjustment mechanism

Driven by the actuator, the mechanism that directly changes the manipulated variable.

6. Valve

A pressure-sealed shell assembly containing a shut-off element for controlling fluid flow.

7. Executive agency

The control signal is converted into corresponding actions to control the position of the blocking member in the bore or other adjustment mechanism. The signal or driving force can be pneumatic, electric, hydraulic or any combination of the three.

8. pneumatic actuator

An actuator that uses pressurized gas as a power source.

9. Electric actuator

An actuator that uses electricity as a power source.

10.hydraulic actuator

An actuator that uses pressurized liquid as a power source.

65-2 electric actuators

Basic terminology of pneumatic actuator

1.diaphragm actuator

A mechanism that uses the force generated by the air pressure on the diaphragm to drive a valve or other adjustment mechanism through an output rod.

2. Rolling diaphragm actuator

A mechanism that uses the force generated by the air pressure on the rolling diaphragm (deep corrugated diaphragm) to drive a valve or other adjustment mechanism through an output rod.

3. Piston actuator

A mechanism that uses the force generated by the air pressure on the piston to drive a valve or other adjustment mechanism through the output rod.

4. Pneumatic rotary actuator

Actuating mechanism that outputs angular displacement and torque by operating rotary power components by air pressure

5. Direct actuator

As the operating pressure increases, the rod extends outwards, and the pressure decreases and then retracts inward by itself.

6. Counter-acting executive agency

As the operating pressure increases, the output rod retreats inward, and the pressure decreases and the actuator extends outward by itself.
