What is the difference between electric gate valve and electric shut-off valve?

Electric shut-off valve and flange gate valve are the same type of valve, composed of two parts: electric actuator or pneumatic actuator and shut-off valve. The difference is that its closing part is a valve body, and the valve body rotates around the center line of the valve body to achieve a valve that opens and closes. Let's look at the difference between electric gate valve and electric shut-off valve.

56-1 gate valves

The difference between electric gate valve and electric globe valve

1. Different sealing surfaces

When the gate valve is opened and closed, the valve core and the valve seat sealing surface always contact and rub each other, so the sealing surface is easy to wear, especially when the actuator accessories are close to the closed state, the pressure difference between the front and rear of the valve core is large, and the sealing surface wear is more serious ;

Once the valve disc of the shut-off valve is in an open state, there is no contact between its valve seat and the sealing surface of the valve disc, so its sealing surface is less mechanically worn. The sealing surface of the gate valve has a certain self-sealing ability, and its valve core is in tight contact with the sealing surface of the valve seat by medium pressure to achieve tightness and leak-proofness.

2. Different structure

The gate valve has a more complicated structure and a larger height than the stop valve. In terms of appearance, the gate valve is shorter and taller than the stop valve. In particular, the rising stem gate valve requires a higher height space. This should be paid attention to when the installation space is limited.

4. Different flow directions

When the stop valve is installed, the medium can enter from below the valve core and enter from above in two ways. Electric shut-off valve generally adopts the way that the medium enters from above. Compared with the gate valve, the shut-off valve has the advantages of simple structure, good sealing performance, and convenient manufacturing and maintenance; the disadvantage is that the liquid resistance is large, and the opening and closing force is large.

5. Different flow resistance

When the gate valve is fully open, the entire flow path is straight. At this time, the pressure loss of the medium is minimal. Compared with the stop valve, its main advantage is that the fluid flow resistance is small. Gate valves are usually suitable for working conditions that do not need to be opened and closed frequently, and keep the gates fully open or fully closed, and are not suitable for regulating and throttling.

However, the flow resistance of the shut-off valve during the entire stroke is large, the unbalanced force is large, and the required driving force or torque is correspondingly much larger. But it is very suitable for fluid regulation and throttling.

The application range of globe valves and gate valves is determined according to their characteristics. The above is the difference between globe valve and gate valve. If this article is helpful to you, please forward it to more people in need.
